Although physical measurements play an important role, Bang & Olufsen considers the human ear the final judge. Tonmeister Geoff Martin is responsible for setting up a so-called Listening Panel, a group of people of different age and gender, who must be able to identify a series of errors to maintain their position as impartial and accurate crititcs of sound quality - one of the reasons why they never see the loudspeakers they are listening to.

Geoff Martin, M.Mus, Ph. D, now Bang & Olufsen Tonmeister, who moved from Montreal, Canada to Struer, Denmark to work for Bang & Olufsen, has over the years earned his nickname, The Ear, through his almost intolerable perfectionist approach to sound quality.

This is "The Cube" the largest privately owned electro-acoustic measuring facility in the world. It measures various aspects of loudspeaker performance and the large size is required to make sure you measure only the loudspeaker's performance and not the reflections of the walls, ceilings and floors. Beolit 12 is of course also subjected to such tests, which are computer-controlled allowing the measurement conditions to be precisely recreated time after time.
